Alpha S1589 Nitrile Contact Adhesive has been developed for bonding soft, plasticized PVC and polyurethane materials to themselves or to metals and foams.
It can also be used as a general purpose adhesive for bonding wood, felt and many other substrates.
The adhesive film has very good resistance to oil and grease.
Short open time
Ideal general purpose adhesive for bonding PVC and PU
Oil and grease resistant
Alpha S1589 is suitable for the following applications:
- Bonding soft, flexible PVC materials
- Bonding polyurethane foams and fabrics
- Bonding in medical testing devices

All substrate surfaces should be abraded using abrasion paper or air-driven narrow belt sander. It is imperative that the surfaces are then cleaned of any dust, grit, loose material, wax, grease and oil using Alpha T162 or a suitable cleaner.
- Alpha S1589 Nitrile Contact Adhesive must be stirred carefully before use. Keep adhesive container
closed whenever adhesive is not being used to reduce solvent evaporation.
- Apply a thin, even coating of Alpha S1589 to both surfaces to be bonded. Do not apply the adhesive to an area greater than can be covered in one day.
- Allow the solvent to evaporate before bonding the materials. The time for evaporation will
depend on the temperature and humidity. Under normal ambient conditions this will take a minimum of 1-2 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes or until the adhesive film no longer transfers to the fingertip. Join the surfaces.
- Bring the surfaces together and bond firmly taking care not to trap air, and use as much
pressure as possible to consolidate the bond. Immediately brush down the bonded portion
with a soft bristle push broom or a clean dry roller applicator to achieve maximum contact.
- Dried films of Alpha S1589 may be reactivated by wiping the surface with T162 solvent.
The immediate high contact bond strength increases appreciably within the next 48 hours and will develop still further in service. For the best heat resistance, leave at room temperature for 7 days, before subjecting to high temperatures
Alpha Cleaner T162 should be used to remove residues from surfaces.
HEALTHY & SAFETY INFORMATION
Alpha S1589 is classified as hazardous according to Directive EC 1272/2008. Please refer to the Alpha S1589 Safety Data Sheet for further health & safety information.
Alpha S1589 should be stored in its original container, with the lid tightly secured, in dry conditions and at temperatures between 5°C and 25°C. Alpha S1589 will keep satisfactorily for up to 18 months from date of manufacture if stored according to the recommended conditions.
